| Jesus,
Gautama, and all the great masters were very ordinary
men…
Of course, it is easier to imagine and above all to
believe they were "extraordinary" people,
rather than thinking they have become extraordinary
by their exemplary behavior and their great understanding
of the world.
In the first case, at the most you can worship them,
but how can you follow the example of an extra-ordinary
being ? Then you accept to do only what seems possible
to you. You have an excuse : you are only a mortal and
thus, incapable of becoming yourself a Jesus or a Buddha
one day.
But if you consider that these great Masters were first
ordinary men, then you become aware of the courage and
willingness that anybody has to show to attain such
a realization... You understand better the words of
Jesus who said : " He who will drink from my mouth
will become like me. I myself shall become he, and the
things that are hidden will be revealed to him."
( Gospel of Thomas, saying 108 ).
And when Gautama said He was Buddha, just like Jesus,
He did not pretend that the others could not be the
same. This state of Buddha, contrary to our countless
egos, is universal. There is no difference as far as
consciousness is concerned between the beings who reach
the state of Buddha, just like there is no difference
between those who reveal what Jesus calls Christ. It
is the same thing expressed in other words.
When a being attains this ultimate realization - revealing
Christ within, He becomes, like Jesus, the unique Son
of God. There are countless clouds but only one Sky.
Christ is the Sky within ourselves, our ego the clouds
which veil it.
If Jesus had been an out of the
ordinary being from His birth, then all the great things
He achieved would have been normal for Him, because
of His extraordinary abilities, and He could not have
pretended to be a model for all the ordinary men who
do not have His exceptional qualities.
He would not be an example for mankind but an idol you
worship, an admirable relic. Besides this is the result
of the doctrines of many Churches. But neither Jesus
nor Buddha did pretend to be exceptional beings. On
the contrary, they taught us that just like the coal
has the power to turn into a diamond, anybody has the
ability to accomplish such a transformation ! In other
words, anyone can become a Christ, a Buddha.
Nevertheless, only great sacrifices
and a fierce willingness can lead to such a transformation.
This inner journey is much more hazardous than facing
sarcasm, hypocrisy, jealousy...of the world. Truth is
within each of us, but to discover it is not an easy
thing. This is why these admirable masters left a message
based on their own experiences, so as to help their
fellow men on the path to enlightenment. But their original
messages have been perverted by the Churches which imposed
dogmas and twisted the spirit of religion.
They created a huge gap between the teachers and their
disciples. They turned them into inaccessible gods,
which prevents people from seeing them as examples to
follow, and as the wonderful men they are. All these
great masters who were first ordinary men have been
shown as living gods on Earth. By this trick, many religious
authorities granted themselves the power of being the
only representatives of God. They never stopped abusing
the fake divine power they allowed themselves.
What's more, the original spiritual
teaching of the great masters have never been passed
on by religious authorities. No, spiritual teaching
can't be passed on by authorities in any way. At the
most they can convey concepts, ideologies, but not a
"living" teaching. And the teaching has to
be living to be rightly appreciated and well understood.
This is why it has always been passed on from masters
to disciples. In other words, from initiated people
on the path of consciousness to less advanced people
who progress on the same path. From brother to brother.
The point is to teach on the basis of one's experience,
and not to borrow from Scriptures, Holy as they may
be... To be a specialist in theology does not mean to
be enlightened.
And to become enlightened, there is absolutely no need
to become a theologian. The story of Jesus and many
masters testify it. Besides,- does it have to be remembered
? - it is by theologians and by the "most important
religious dignitaries" that Jesus, like so many
other masters, was persecuted, condemned and killed.
To consider these great masters like
brothers is the greatest token of esteem you can show
them. It is also the most relevant attitude to attain
one day, like them, your own conscience awakening.
